Nephrologist & Transplant Nephrologist

The Department of Medicine, University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services, invites applications for two positions in the Section of Nephrology.

XOne position is for a Transplant Nephrologist. The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills and be a proven strong team member. They will join a team of that supports over 1000 kidney and kidney/pancreas patients and undertakes 60-70 transplant procedures per year. Candidates with a proven academic record can be supported with an appropriate level faculty position and start up funding is negotiable. We have a large data base of transplant patients and candidates with areas of academic interest in basic science or health services research and epidemiology will have existing mentorship, collaboration and protected time for research and teaching. Opportunities to work partially in general nephrology are also available if desired. Compensation will be within an Academic Alternative Relationship Plan in the Department of Medicine.

XOne position is for a Clinical or Academic Nephrologist. A very strong team member with superior clinical skills is sought to complement and support one of the top academic nephrology programs in Canada. There is considerable flexibility in this position depending on the skills and desires of the successful candidate. Additional interest in hemodialysis, glomerulonephritis and/or therapeutic apheresis would be a strength but not a requirement. Candidates with areas of academic interest in basic science, translational research, health services research, epidemiology, hemodialysis and vascular access will have existing mentorship, collaboration and protected time for research and teaching. Successful candidates with an appropriate skill set may be supported through a cross appointment with the Department of Community Health Sciences. Compensation for an academic candidate will be within an Academic Alternative Relationship Plan in the Department of Medicine. A successful clinical nephrologist may be compensated on a fee-for-service basis.

All members of the Division of Nephrology are involved in the education of medical students, residents and we have a very active and sought after Nephrology Training Program. In addition, we highly value individuals who are supportive of their colleagues and receive personal satisfaction from the success of others. A demonstrable record of teaching and support of, and collaboration with, colleagues is a necessity.

Qualifications include an MD, Nephrology sub-specialty accreditation or certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta.
Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone operates five teaching hospitals in the city of Calgary. AHS serves over 1.5 million residents of Southern Alberta, Southeastern British Columbia and Southwestern Saskatchewan. The Department provides academic and clinical services in an integrated manner across all of the hospital sites and in several ambulatory care settings. Calgary is a vibrant city (population 1,200,000) situated near the Rocky Mountains, Banff National Park and Lake Louise.
