Southern Alberta Kidney Transplant Program
We are based at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary and have a busy transplant program, typically performing between 100 and 130 kidney transplant annually. This including living donor kidney transplants and both DNC and DCC deceased donor transplants. We also perform whole pancreas transplants, either as combined pancreas and kidney transplants or pancreas transplant alone. Currently we follow more than 1400 patients with a functioning kidney transplant through our outpatient clinics.
What you can expect during this Advanced Fellowship:
In addition to providing training in the skills and expertise required to provide high quality inpatient and outpatient care for patients who have a kidney transplant, the fellowship will also provide training in how to assess the suitability of potential recipients and donors (both deceased and living donors) for kidney +/- pancreas transplantation. The fellowship program will provide the foundation to create future leaders in kidney transplantation.
In addition to supervised inpatient and outpatient clinical training, we include learning experiences in tissue typing, renal pathology, and transplant surgery. We have a formal academic half day curriculum that covers the important content areas in transplantation. There is also an opportunity to participate in either bench or clinical research and/or formal educational rounds related to transplantation.
