Academic Transplant Nephrologist

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton invite applications for an Academic Nephrologist to join the Division of Nephrology for July 2025. Preference will be given to candidates who will have completed fellowship training in Nephrology with additional Fellowship training or experience in Solid Organ Transplantation.This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Division of Nephrology and will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Faculty and Division. The successful applicant will have a primary focus in renal transplantation and will participate in both inpatient and outpatient programs. Clinical duties will include rotation through the MRP inpatient renal transplant service that also provides coverage for a mix of patients with kidney disease (including acute dialysis) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, as well as supervising a consult service at the other teaching hospital sites in Hamilton for a total of approximately 10-12 weeks per year.
Outpatient clinical service will balance new assessments and post-renal transplant patients, seeing approximately 40-50 outpatients per week. There will also be an opportunity to provide care to patients with glomerulonephritis for those candidates with interest and experience.
Candidates should bring training and experience in education, patient safety, research, innovation and/or clinical leadership to the Division.
The Division of Nephrology comprises 19 geographic nephrologists including five other transplant nephrologists and two PhD researchers who are engaged in clinical practice, education and research. The Division provides tertiary nephrology and renal transplantation care to the central-west region of Ontario. The Renal Transplant Program performs approximately 160 transplants per year with over 1500 transplanted patients followed. These transplants include highly sensitized and
ABO-incompatible patients.
McMaster has a highly regarded nephrology residency training program and also offers additional transplant training through both the Royal College as an Area of Focused Competency and through the American Society of Transplant as an accredited transplant fellowship training program. Successful HLA laboratory, renal pathology and clinical research programs provide an excellent academic atmosphere.
The successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in all appropriate departmental and divisional clinical, educational and/or research activities.
Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
