Job Description / Duties

Position profile – The Saskatchewan Health Authority is seeking a full-time Director of HLA laboratory to provide leadership to our HLA and Immunogenetics laboratory. The Laboratory is integrated with the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan and the Saskatoon Department of Laboratory Medicine of the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The candidate will have an appointment with the University of Saskatchewan, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

The director of HLA lab is expected to provide technical and consultation services regarding histocompatibility testing for both solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, transfusion support and for other clinical purposes. The successful candidate will be required to provide technical support for all HLA and transplant-related laboratory tests. Expertise in new molecular methodologies such as NGS is an asset. It is the responsibility of HLA director to ensure the high quality of services and their compliance with ASHI standards. Director of the HLA lab will be responsible for sign-out and interpretation of HLA laboratory results, consultation with physicians, clinical and translational research, residents, fellows and ABHI certification training as required, development of new tests and improvement of the current assays.

Qualifications/Requirements of the position – Ideal candidates must have an M.D., Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree. Candidates must be board certified/eligible in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics from the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI). Salary levels are competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
