Jan 10, 2013   -   CST Affirms its role in developing leading practice guidelines and a national process for review and implementation

CST AFFIRMS ITS ROLE IN DEVELOPING LEADING PRACTICE GUIDELINES AND A NATIONAL PROCESS FOR REVIEW AND IMPLEMENTATION

In response to inquiries from Organ Donor and Transplant Organizations (ODO), the CST reviewed its current involvement in the development of leading practices and how these leading practices are to be translated into clinical practice. The CST supports a national scope for such guidelines, with the intent that they will be adapted based on program and regional requirements. These guidelines continue to be developed by member communities such as organ-specific CST Groups, based on their specific needs as the evidence to support leading practices emerges. The CST has also collaborated with organizations such as CCDT and Canadian Blood Services to hold conferences that bring together expert members of the CST with other stakeholders to reach consensus on important national issues in the field.

The CST has reaffirmed its commitment to advance clinical care in donation and transplantation, by developing leading practice guidelines at a national level. It also is committed to supporting individual members of the CST who advise on local ODO expert committees to develop policy that addresses these leading practices, in particular through the efforts of the respective organ-specific CST Groups. The CST will continue to engage with stakeholders on a national basis, using committee infrastructures available through the Canadian Standards Association, Health Canada, and with ODO Directors at the national meetings hosted by Canadian Blood Services, through its mandate from the Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Health.

The letter responding to the ODO is attached.
