The Finance Committee receives the annual overall operating budget prepared by the President and approved by the Board, and the specific Board-approved project budgets prepared by Board Committees. The Finance Committee monitors and reports to the Board on the organization’s actual financial performance against its budget.
Specific responsibilities: 1) Recommend policies and reporting mechanisms to ensure the integrity of financial transactions. 2) Ensure that the Board receives monthly and yearly financial reports that provide an accurate, timely, and clear picture of the financial status of the Society. 3) Upon written request from the President, review of the operating budget prepared by the President; proposals for major operating costs, existing or new programs or services, as well as proposals to discontinue programs or services, and provide action recommendations about ‘value for money spent’. 4) Annually, review the anticipated consequences of the Board’s financial decisions and recommend a long-range financial plan for the organization.
